Strengthening Ties: Turkey and Germany Discuss Visa Reforms
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya discussed visa issues with Germany’s Federal Minister of the Interior and Community, Nancy Faeser.
The meeting between Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya and German Federal Minister Nancy Faeser took place in Berlin, focusing on the visa problems faced by Turkish citizens. A statement regarding the meeting mentioned, “An exchange of views was held on how to improve the situation regarding Turkish citizens obtaining German visas.”
In a joint press release from Turkey and Germany, it was noted that during the meeting between the delegations, there was an exchange of ideas on strengthening cooperation between the two countries within the scope of the responsibilities of the two ministries.
The statement emphasized that in addition to cooperation in combating terrorism, opportunities for enhancing collaboration in the areas of organized crime and security were also discussed. The statement included the following:
“There was also an exchange of ideas on cooperation in combating human smuggling. The new Citizenship Law that has come into effect in Germany and the issues related to application processes were also evaluated. An exchange of views was held on how to improve the situation regarding Turkish citizens obtaining German visas. Lastly, the topics of further strengthening cooperation and communication at the working level between the two ministries were discussed.”
